New EPC Rules from 1 April

From 1st April, the new Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rules will apply to all existing tenancies in England & Wales - domestic and non-domestic.


All rented properties let will need to meet the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) of E, unless they have an exemption. That means landlords with properties with an EPC rating of F or G risk fines of up to £5,000 per property. Landlords with no EPC or an expired EPC must gain one which achieves the minimum standard.
